Ganpati Visarjan – Why We Let Go to Begin Again

Ganpati visarjan

Every year, when we welcome Ganpati Bappa into our homes, it feels like inviting wisdom, joy, and protection to sit with us. He comes like a loved one who brings light, laughter, and blessings. And just as naturally as he arrives, we bid him farewell with the ritual of Ganpati Visarjan.

On the surface, it may feel like a goodbye. But in truth, it’s a reminder of life’s deepest truth — nothing is permanent. Just as the clay idol dissolves back into water, we too are asked to let go of our attachments, fears, and even our joys, trusting that all things return to where they belong.

The visarjan is not an end, it’s a cycle — of creation and dissolution, of holding on and letting go. Our ancestors shaped it this way so we could practice detachment without losing devotion. As we chant “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya,” we send Bappa home, but also invite renewal in our own lives.

For me, Ganpati Visarjan whispers a gentle truth: letting go does not mean losing, it means making space for beginnings.
